An itinerary full of surprises that will enrich your spirit and soul. Jump on your bike to discover Valgrande, Bibione’s lagoon, that enchanting spot of green and blue that you glimpse as you are entering the valley. A labyrinth of sandbanks, shallows and reeds, and a biodiverse paradise where you can easily encounter grey herons and pink flamingos, and where organic fish farms follow the rhythm of nature and the tides.
Classified as a manmade fishing valley, it is actually much more than that in terms of both nature and the emotions it arouses in those who visit it. Emotions made of water, mirages, greenery, history, sounds, colours and silences. Simply pass through the gate and you will enter an unexpected, surprising and, above all, exciting world. In a few minutes, the lively, dynamic holiday scenario gives way to silent, secluded and intimate landscapes, hosting multitudes of animal species, engaged in creating nests, flying from one island to another or pecking tree trunks with their beaks. Just outside Bibione, you can find a natural oasis with centuries-old holm oaks, inquisitive fallow deer coming out of the woods, mallards rising in flight, herons nesting and turtles cooling down in the ponds. Don’t forget to visit the remains of a Roman house, where you can still admire some fragments of a mosaic floor. A gentle, respectful natural context that will capture you and take you back to distant times.
The route of beaten earth and sandy paths is suitable for expert mountain or trekking bikers. Valgrande is private property and visits are by official guided tours. For information and registration: ABA Viaggi - + 39 0431.430101
